It’s getting harder to remember what life was like when it wasn’t easy to capture and share it with photos and even videos. We’re headed up to see my parents tomorrow for Thanksgiving and they have most of my early memories preserved on slides that go on the old carousel projectors. We used to have a Christmas tradition of viewing a few carousels worth of the family history every Christmas Eve after dinner and before bed.
While sharing photos on Facebook and photo sharing sites is great, what’s even better is having a tangible way to view the photos. Our girls are in a new school this year but in the old one, we regularly made “yearbooks” collectively as a class and the girls love to have “read” them as a bedtime treat.
Even though I think it is a tradition that is going to fade as people go “green” and “virtual,” I love receiving photo holiday cards–I used to decorate our front door with them as a way to share the joy of the season.
Recently, I became a host of a Shutterfly House Party. My party is Friday and will be full of family and friends and generate more beloved memories. As a House Party host, Shutterfly has provided me and my guests with coupons for 15 free cards and a free calendar each! I just adore Erin Condren’s designs and she has a partnership with Shutterfly so you can enjoy her designs at a more modest price point. (And if you want to indulge, her site is having its first 50% off sale on Black Friday for six hours–practice pads for the girls, here I come!!)
I just ordered New Year’s cards today with mine and I will have three extra coupons left after the party that I would love to share with you. The coupons cover everything except shipping and handling (about $6.50 for my 15 cards). To enter the giveaway, please comment below with your favorite holiday memory by Wednesday, November 30th.

My favorite holiday memory, took place 4 years ago. It was christmas day and My WHOLE family was packed into a Ford F150 Driving around Anchorage, Alaska eating chuck wagons! It may sound silly but this is above all my favorite memory!
My favorite holiday memory is getting a puppy for Christmas when I was in 7th grade. We had begged our parents for years and didn’t think they would ever really get us one. They surprised us a few weeks before Christmas.
My favorite holiday memory was the last Christmas the whole family was together, when my grandfather was still alive. That was also the last Christmas I spent at home in the Philippines, before I left for the USA to marry my fiancé. How I miss home, and my family.
My favorite memory was years after I was adopted I met my new grandfather that lived out of state. I got off the plane to visit my new grandparents for christmas vacation and he was supposed to be at the airport waiting for me. I remember getting off the terminal, seeing my grandfather and running towards him to hug him. I didn’t know it at the time, but he was the best gift ever given to me to this day.
My fav is having all the family and friends sittign around laughing and eating!
House parties are fun, great loot! my favorite holiday memory is bringing my first born to visit my family for the first time.
christmas pjs are my favorite!
Three years ago I was cranig for a group of Mexican girls and they wanted to make tamales for Christmas so I got a recipe from a friend- it was one of the vague by feel ones- took my very white butt to the local Mexican grocery to get fresh ground masa and meat- I know they laughed when I left- and we spent the day trying to make tamales. The girls who swore they knew what they were doing didn’t- and so we fumbled about with them. My first try were tasty but the masa wasn’t nice and soft- the second time went much better. I’m planning on making them again. If someone of German decent can figure it out I have now doubt you could do it- add some friends and margaritas and it’ll be fine no matter what happens. I make my own pie crust too.My parents had a very small place a few years ago and they had a decorative wooden ladder- I’m sure you’ve seen them- anyway they would string their lights and put up decorations on that! It was great.
My favorite memory is sitting next to the Christmas tree reading books and sipping hot chocolate with the kids.
My favorite holiday memory was the countdown to Christmas using an advent calendar, the eagerness was fun!
My favorite holiday memory is pulling my kids in a sled and going caroling to the neighbors house.
My favorite memory is the first time we went to the Freedom Plains Presbyterian Church for the candlelight, carol service. It’s dusk when you arrive and by service’s end, it is dark. The church’s lawn is magically transformed by the local Boy Scouts during the service into a sea of shimmering luminaria. Congratulations to Maria of Blogging, Babies and the Bayou, Donna and Kaley for winning the giveaway. I’ll be contacting each of you with the Shutterfly codes today!
